World Health Forum veneto: here's the program

ON THE CLOSING DAY, THERE WILL BE THREE SIMULTANEOUS EVENTS ORGANIZED BY THE VENETO REGION, MOTORE SANITÀ, VIMM, AND THE STABLE THEATER OF VENETO.

Padova, March 19, 2024 – The World Health Forum Veneto is approaching, four days filled with meetings to discover the frontiers of technology applied to health. The event will unfold from Wednesday, March 20, to Saturday, March 23, in Padova, between the Hall of the Palazzo della Ragione and the spaces of Padova Congress, with over 100 speakers: promoted by the Region of Veneto, Municipality of Padova, University of Padova, Padova Chamber of Commerce, Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Padova and Rovigo, Motore Sanità, VIMM - Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine, Venicepromex, and Veneto Innovazione. Registration for the scheduled meetings, which is free, is still open on the website https://www.worldhealthforum.it.

The program for Wednesday, March 20

Luca Zaia, President of the Region of Veneto, will open the event at Palazzo della Ragione on Wednesday at 3:45 pm. At 4 pm, Daniela Mapelli, the magnificent rector of the University of Padova, will speak on “The role of university research in the development of artificial intelligence applied to medicine.” At 4:40 pm, a dialogue on the topic of pandemics, “How to predict and how to deal with the next pandemic,” between Giorgio Palù, emeritus professor of microbiology and virology at the University of Padova and past president of the European Society for Virology, and Thomas Mertens, president of the STIKO (permanent vaccination commission of the Robert Koch Institute, Germany) and emeritus professor of virology at the University of Ulm. At 5:10 pm, the keynote speech “Radically transforming our health systems using digital, data, and artificial intelligence” by Professor Martin Curley, director of the Digital Health Ecosystem Innovation Value Institute at Maynooth University (Ireland). At 5:40 pm, the conversation on “The role of the chamber entities and banking foundations in support of the development of artificial intelligence in healthcare” between Antonio Santocono, president of the Padova Chamber of Commerce, and Professor Gilberto Muraro, president of the Cariparo Foundation. At 6:20 pm, the intervention of the mayor of Padova, Sergio Giordani, will close the first day.

The program for Thursday, March 21

From the second day, Thursday, the event moves to the Padova Congress conference center. At 9 am, greetings from the authorities: Daniela Mapelli, rector of the University of Padova, Gaudenzio Meneghesso, director of the Department of Information Engineering of Unipd, Roberto Vettor, director of the Department of Medicine of Unipd, Angelo Paolo Dei Tos, president of the School of Medicine of Padova, and Giuseppe Dal Ben, general director of the Padova Hospital Company.

At 9:40 am, the keynote speeches “Pushing Medical Frontiers: AI-Driven Breakthroughs in Medicine” by Mihaela van der Schaar (University of Cambridge, UK) and “From Hype to Ripe: Implementing AI in Health Systems” by Yael Ophir, Executive Director HealthIL (Israel).

At 11 am, the first session, “The central role of data,” with Tianxi Cai (Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA), Manlio De Domenico (University of Padova), Björn Eskofier (Friedrich-Alexander-University, Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany), and Rosario Rizzuto (University of Padova).

At 2 pm, the second session, “AI for precision medicine,” with Matej Oresic (Örebro University, Sweden), Jens Rittscher (University of Oxford, UK), Fabio Vandin (University of Padova), Davide Risso (University of Padova), and Mario Luca Morieri (University of Padova). The third session, “Ethics, Regulations, Fairness, and Explainability,” starts at 4:10 pm with contributions from Giusella Finocchiaro (University of Bologna), Alessandro Fabris (Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy, Bochum, Germany), Fabio Grigenti (University of Padova), and Guglielmo Tamburrini (University of Naples Federico II), who will engage in a roundtable discussion at 4:50 pm.

The program for Friday, March 22

The third day, still at Padova Congress, opens at 9 am with the keynote speech “Leveraging genetics for AI-based personalized medicine of common multifactorial disorders” by Alessandro Doria (Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA).

At 9:40 am, the fourth session “Explainable, Actionable, and Responsible AI” with Carlo Combi (University of Verona), Panagiotis Papapetrou (Stockholm University, Sweden), Pietro Liò (University of Cambridge, UK). At 11:20 am, the fifth session “AI for preventive medicine” with Lorenzo Chiari (University of Bologna), Michele Piana (University of Genoa), and Dario Gregori (University of Padova).

At 2 pm, the program resumes with the keynote speech “Learning across 16M patients: platforms and applications in acute care” by Sebastien Ourselin (King’s College London, UK). The sixth session “AI applications” is divided into two parts. The first, at 2:35 pm, with Henning Müller (HES-SO Valais Techno-Pôle, Switzerland) and Filippo Lanubile (University of Bari). The second, at 3:40 pm, with Riccardo Bellazzi (University of Pavia), Gino Gerosa (University of Padova), Barbara Di Camillo (University of Padova), Tommaso Banzato (University of Padova), Marco Zorzi (University of Padova), and Alfonso Pozzan (Evotec).

The program for Saturday, March 23: Regione Veneto

On the fourth and final day, in the morning, the World Health Forum Veneto is divided into three simultaneous sessions at the Padova Congress spaces. The program, curated by the Region of Veneto, opens at 9 am with greetings from the authorities, and at 10 am, it tackles the theme “New infrastructures for digital health”: after the introduction by Tiziana Lippiello, Magnificent Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Andrea Zanella (University of Padova), Idelfo Borgo (ICT and Digital Agenda Directorate - Region of Veneto), Paolo Villoresi (University of Padova), Marco Nobile (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), and Paolo Ghezzi (Infocamere) intervene.

At 10:45, Prefect Bruno Frattasi, Director General of the National Cybersecurity Agency, will deliver the speech "Cybersecurity as a Strategic Lever".

At 11:00, the second session titled "Health is Systemic and Global" will feature Massimo Paolucci (curator of the Planetary Health Festival), Stefano Vella (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart), Francesca Russo (Director of Prevention, Food Safety, and Veterinary Medicine - Veneto Region), and Ludovico Baldessin (administrator of Edra/Healtival).

Starting at 12:00, the third session "Space Exploration for the Evolution of Health Services" will commence with Cesare Lobascio (Thales, Alenia Space), Gabriele Mascetti (Italian Space Agency), and Paola Verde (Italian Air Force), moderated by Anilkumar Dave (Veneto Digital Agenda advisor).

At 12:40, former ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli will deliver the speech "Living Healthy in Space". The fourth and final session at 14:00, titled "Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Data Integration from a Onehealth Perspective," will feature discussions led by Antonia Ricci (Director General of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie), Stefano Merler (Bruno Kessler Foundation, Trento), Anna Teresa Palamara (Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at ISS), and Giusi Condorelli (Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health and scientific attaché at the Italian Embassy in Washington).

The program for Saturday, March 23: Motore Sanità

The program for Saturday, organized by Motore Sanità, starts at 9:00 with the keynote speech "Needs, proposals, solutions in healthcare for a new industrial policy of the country Italy" by Mariella Enoc (Special Prosecutor, Valduce Hospital).

At 9:30, there will be an introduction to the scenario "OCSE international data on healthcare utilization and expenditure" with Claudio Zanon (Scientific Director, Health Engine), Manuela Lanzarin (Councilor for Health and Social Affairs, Veneto Region), Andrea Costa (expert in implementation strategies of the Pnrr - Mission 6 Health, with particular reference to interventions at the territorial level, Ministry of Health), and Giovanni Migliore (President, FIASO, and General Manager of Policlinico di Bari), moderated by Luciano Flor (former General Director of Health, Veneto Region).

At 10:00, there will be a roundtable discussion on "Needs, proposals, solutions of the pharmaceutical industry committed to healthcare for a new industrial policy of the country Italy," featuring Alessandro Chiesi (President of Chiesi Farmaceutici), Umberto Comberiati (CEO, Teva Italia), Domenico Lucatelli (Market Access Director, Angelini Italia), Onofrio Mastandrea (Regional Vice President, General Manager Italy, Incyte), Enrique Häusermann (President, Equalia), Paolo Gili (Business Unit Director, Biogen Italia), Federico Viganò (member of the Board of Directors, Federchimica Assobiotec), moderated by Rossana Boldi (former Vice President of the Social Affairs Commission of the Chamber of Deputies) and Enrico Rossi (Relations Manager with the Regions, Health Engine).

At 11:00, there will be a roundtable discussion on "Needs, proposals, solutions of the medical devices industry committed to healthcare for a new industrial policy of the country Italy and biosimilar and equivalent drugs as a tool for innovation sustainability," featuring Massimiliano Bindi (CEO, Abbott Italia), Alessandra Gelera (Public Affairs, Health Economics & Market Access Country Head at Boston Scientific), Laura Meli (Communications Manager, Convatec Italia), Massimo Pulin (President, Confimi Industria Sanità), moderated by Claudio Zanon (Scientific Director, Health Engine) and Luca Giuseppe Dalle Carbonare (University of Verona).

At 12:00, a roundtable discussion on "Information technology and its impact on the future of healthcare in Italy" will include Antonio Amati (General Manager, Almaviva), Antonio Delli Gatti (Commercial Director, Healthcare Italy at Engineering Ingegneria Informatica), Giacomo Lorusso (CEO, Jakala Civitas), Fausto Manzana (CEO, Gruppo GPI), Pietro Pacini (President, Assinter Italia), Mario Ronchetti (President, Atena Informatica), and Enrico Zanella (General Manager, IN.VA Valle D’Aosta), moderated by Roberto Soj (Scientific Director, Health Engine) and Fabiola Bologna (former Secretary of the Social Affairs Commission of the Chamber of Deputies).

At 13:00, the conclusions and operational proposals will be presented by Antonio Tomassini (President, Association of Parliamentary Initiative for Health and Prevention).

The program for Saturday, March 23: VIMM

The program, organized by VIMM, starts at 9:30 with the welcome address by Stefano Bellon (Vice President, Foundation for Advanced Biomedical Research).

At 10:00, there will be "Science Hunters: Journey into scientific research" with Francesca Pasinelli (General Manager, Telethon Foundation). The first session at 10:30 will cover "Farmastartup: Adventures and Challenges of Pioneers in the Pharmaceutical Industry" with Marcello Allegretti (Head of Scientific Office, Dompé Farmaceutici), Graziella Pellegrini (Director of Research and Development, Holostem), Paolo Fundarò (CEO, Xgen Venture), and Federica Draghi (Business Development Manager, Xgen Venture), moderated by Annamaria Zaccheddu (Science Communicator, Telethon Foundation).

At 11:30, the second session will explore "Future Explorers among organoids, gene editing, and complex diseases" with Cecilia Laterza (University of Padua and Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine), Emanuela Zuccaro (University of Padua and Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine), Manuela Allegra (CNR Institute of Neuroscience Padua, University of Padua, and Città della Speranza), Francesco Chemello (University of Bologna), moderated by Annamaria Zaccheddu.

At 12:50 pm , there will be "Research beyond national borders: Adventures and Secrets" with Mauro Giacca (Head of the School of Medicine and Cardiovascular and Metabolic Sciences, King’s College London, United Kingdom).

At 13:15, the conclusions will be presented by Nicola Elvassore (Scientific Director, Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine).

The program for Saturday, March 23: Teatro Stabile del Veneto

The closing event will be dedicated to theater, at 3 pm on Saturday 23, in the Giotto Hall of Padova Congress, where the Fondazione del Teatro Stabile del Veneto - Teatro Nazionale will present "Ars medicina. Literature, theater, and faith: the breath of man”, a conference-performance featuring Pier Luigi Pizzi, Father Antonio Spadaro, and Giampiero Beltotto. Reflections will be accompanied by readings from texts by Sophocles, Molière, Thomas Mann, and Aleksandr Isaevich Solzhenitsyn, performed by Silvia Luise and Cosimo Grilli, actors graduated from the Carlo Goldoni Theater Academy, while the tenor Cristian Ricci will interpret the music of Astor Piazzolla, Giuseppe Verdi, and Giacomo Puccini.

The World Health Forum Veneto is born with a specific purpose: to analyze the present and delve into the future of medical sciences and technologies that can improve life.
